4Minute (Korean: 포미닛) is a
five-member South Korean girl group created by Cube Entertainment in 2009.
The group's leader is Nam Ji-hyun, and the other
members are Heo Ga-yoon, Jeon Ji-yoon, Kim Hyun-a, and Kwon So-hyun.
The girls released their first single on
June 15, 2009 and made their debut stage last June 18, 2009 on Mnet M!
Countdown. Their official fan club name is "4Nia" --- a combination
of 4Minute and mania.
This album was my first purchase in the Music Store, when I
went to Legaspi City, I saw it in
"ODDSSEY" IT WAS WORTH 895 Php . Just on the strength of their first album and hit single Muzik, 4Minute
has already gained considerable popularity in not only Korea, but also in
Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand. The girl group takes it to the next
level with their second mini-album Hit Your Heart. Label mate BEAST features in
the album's hip-hop opening track Who's next?, and the girls have teamed up
with hit maker Shinsadong Tiger again for their hot leading single Huh. The
seven-track album also features the catchy pop number I My Me Mine and the
group's first ballad "Cool and Natural".
The one that caught my eye was the gorgeous packaging. Its
opened and closed with this little magnetic door, you'll love it.Inside here’s
a little photo book attached and then a mini poster inside a flap between the photo
book and cd holder. I really really recommend this, you won't regret it.
Now here are My opinions on the the tracks of the album:
“Who’s
Next?” is no exception to
that. I think this was a great choice to start with; it really gets you
pumped up for what’s on the rest of the album, and it’s actually cohesive with
all of the other songs. Featuring BEAST was a really nice touch as it probably
gained 4minute some new fans. Despite its short length you get a little
something from each of the 4minute members, which is nice. I listened to this
track 1 time, and even that was too
many times.
Who's Next feat. B2ST
“HuH (Hit Your Heart)”
takes that classic 4minute sound, which you’d expect from them, but really just
amps it up into a more mature and powerful feeling. I have to admit; I thought I was listening to
a completely new group when this first came out. I couldn’t get over how clean and refined
this song sounded compared to their previous work. I think it’s pretty fair to say that I love
basically everything going on here.
Gayoon and Jiyoon’s powerful vocals really shine through here while
HyunA’s rapping adds an extra flare to the song. Hyuna and Jihyun’s line’s were
very mind blowing and addictive. I like
how even though there’s not a lot of variety going on, it doesn’t sound
repetitive or boring at all. While I’m
happy they won an Inkigayo Mutizen for this, I believe they should of won more
than one time. This is probably
4minute’s best release to date; it’s definitely worth listening to!
"Huh" (Hit your Heart)
“Invitation” I couldn’t help but enjoy this. It’s
really laid back in the beginning but you can feel the song slowly gaining
power as it approaches the chorus.
"Invitation"
“I
My Me Mine” was the
second, and last, song on this mini-album to be fully promoted. While this is without a doubt my favorite song on the album .If I were
to compare the two promotional tracks, I’d probably end up picking this
one. I feel like this song has that classic 4minute ‘in your face’ sound
that “HuH (Hit Your Heart)” was seriously lacking. This might be one of
4minute’s catchiest songs to date, it seems like they know how to do catchy
songs very well now. This definitely makes up for anything lacking in the
previous three songs, I think the album really needed it too. I love
Jiyoon and Gayoon’s singing from 2:30 – 2:48. Gayoon really hits that
final extended note perfectly. I’m kind of glad to see HyunA didn’t have
her typical ‘the song is almost over’ rap break; this was one song where it
wasn’t really needed. I soo love Jiyoon’s dance moves here ;-)
"I My Me Mine"
“Bababa” This particular song is different
from 4minute’s typical sound and it’s a nice change of pace. The lyrics
are basically typical K-Pop lyrics, so there’s nothing too special going on
there. Sohyun and HyunA’s rap break from 2:17 – 2:42 was actually really
needed here. Despite how auto-tuned it sounded, it really broke up how repetitive
the song was. I’m not sure why this song was put on the album in the
first place because it’s not really that amazing, it basically just feels like
filler to me.The
song is meant to be pretty and sweet and upbeat. This song is too messy ;-(
"Bababa"
“Highlight” is totally a blast from the
past; it was definitely made with “Muzik” in mind! This is the
fourth song that ‘introduces’ us to 4minute. It’s getting really
repetitive and just flat out unneeded at this point. That aside, I really
love this song as a whole. The loudness of the bass, the instrumental,
the chorus… Everything is just perfect. HyunA’s rap breaks are great and
really help speed up the song. I think 4minute would have had another hit
on their hands if they promoted this. This is another song you have to
listen to off this album! ♥♥♥
"High Light"
Bringing this
mini-album to a close is “Cool and Natural”. I was expecting another dance
track but was pleasantly surprised with a nice ballad. This was 4minute’s
first ballad ever, so to say I was excited was an understatement. Each of
the girls’ true vocals are showcased here, and none of them disappointed.
It’s so nice to hear HyunA actually sing and not rap for once. It was
also nice to hear Ji Hyun’s voice, she’s terribly underrated and I know she
tries her best with every song. I hope she gains more attention with
future releases; she really deserves it.
"Cool and Natural"
For me, this mini-album has shown how much progress 4minute has
made and how they can compete with the best girl groups in the Korean music
business. Every song on this album is unique to these girls; nobody else
would be able to pull them off as well as they did. This is without a
doubt one of my favorite albums to date. However you get these MP3’s,
they will be worth it. I personally wanted to show my support for 4minute
and bought the actual album and poster. I know I’ll proudly be displaying
them in my room for years to come. (:
LOVE 4MINUTE ♥♥♥ A 10 out of 10
